Congressman Cicilline Recognizes East Bay Met School's Green Team

The team was recently honored for the work to help the environment in Boston.

U.S. Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) recently recognized the efforts of the Paul W. Crowley East Bay Met School’s Green Team in helping to preserve New England’s environment.

The Green Team was named the Environmental Protection Agency‘s 2011 Environmental Merit Award for Environmental for Community, Academia & Non-Profit Organizations.

The MET School serves students from Newport, Portsmouth and Middletown.

“Paul W. Crowley East Bay Met School’s Green Team is making a significant impact on the quality of our environment, and their work will benefit future generations. I applaud Green Team for their commitment to raising the environmental consciousness of local Rhode Island students to preserve our environment and keep it sustainable for generations to come,” said Congressman Cicilline.

The Green Team at the Paul W. Crowley East Bay Met School implemented the school’s first recycling program. The Green Team’s accomplishments include hosting environmental awareness events, testing the water quality of Aquidneck Island’s brooks and rivers, developing outreach materials, creating an Aquidneck Island Green Map highlighting organic farms and nature preserves, and organizing workshops about renewable energy and conservation.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s New England Regional Office earlier this week honored Paul W. Crowley EastBay Met School’s Green Team and two Rhode Island citizens in Boston’s Faneuil Hall. Joseph Boutin and Paul Musco of Cranston, RI and Daniel Geagan of Warwick, RI were also awarded for their individual contributions to the protection of New England’s environment.
