Funeral for Prudence Island Fire Victim This Weekend

Funeral service for Norman R. Medeiros will be held Saturday at W. R. Watson Funeral Home in Riverside starting at 1 p.m.

A funeral service for the man who died in a Prudence Island house fire last week will be held this weekend.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday at W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Ave., in Riverside. Services will begin at 1 p.m.

The Prudence Island Fire Department responded to a single family home engulfed in flames at 88 Ross Ave. in Prudence Island on Thursday, Oct 16 around 7 p.m.

Firefighters discovered 83-year-old homeowner Norman R. Medeiros’ body while extinguishing the fire.

Medeiros lived in Prudence Island for 35 years. He retired in 1986 as a firefighter from the Barrington Fire Department after 28 years, according to his obituary by the W.R. Watson Funeral Home.

He was born in Seekonk, MA, and is the son of the late Murillo and Naomi Paquin Medeiros.

Medeiros is survived by his daughter Ann M. Medeiros and her partner David Handy of Berkley, MA; two sisters Marlene A. Goff and her husband Richard of Seekonk and Nancy C. Loughran of Coventry as well as several nieces and nephews, according to his obituary.

Calling hours are from noon to 1 p.m.
