Get Out! 5 Things to Do Around Portsmouth This Weekend

There's a lot of great food, music and entertainment waiting for you this weekend: two clambakes, a Feast in the Greenvale Vineyard fields, Aztec-Two Step at Common Fence Point and an old-fashioned Harvest Fair at Coggeshall Farm in Bristol.

Enjoy these last few days of summer 2011 at one of many outdoor events planned nearby. 

Here are a few suggestions we rounded up for you:

Newport International Boat Show
When/Where: Thursday, Sept. 15, through Sunday, Sept. 18, Newport Yachting Center, 4 Commercial Wharf, Newport, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day except Sunday, when closing is 5 p.m.
Why Go: It's never too early to think about the 2012 boating season! Check out the powerboats and sailboats from domestic and international manufacturers, along with equipment, services and accessories.

Aztec Two-Step
When/Where
:  Saturday, Sept. 17, 8 p.m., Common Fence Point Community Center, 900 Anthony Road, Portsmouth.
Why Go:  Usher in the 19th season of the Common Fence Music with a special 40th Anniversary Concert celebration by venerable folk/rock duo Aztec Two-Step.
Pricing: $26 advance; $30 day of show

Coggeshall Farm Harvest Fair
When/Where
:  Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18, Coggeshall Farm, Colt State Park, Bristol, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Why Go:  Take a trip back in time to this living history museum; enjoy games, demonstrations, and other period fun.
Pricing:  Adults $8; Kids $5.


When/Where: Friday, Sept. 16, 6 to 9:30 p.m., Greenvale Vineyards, 582 Wapping Road, Portsmouth.
Why Go: It's a benefit for New England Farmways. This year’s Feast is our culinary celebration of local foods and native wines prepared by Rhode Island’s finest chefs, including many from the East Bay area.

Clambake x 2
When/Where:  There are two great community clambakes in town this weekend: The hosts its 8th annual Clambake at Glen Park at noon. Also, the hosts its annual Community Clambake at noon at the Lodge at 81 Sprague St., Portsmouth. (This is a rescheduled date, thanks to Tropical Storm Irene.)
Why Go:  Great food, friends and community spirit!
