K-9 Henry Helps Test Microchip Scanner
Henry, the police dog, is retiring next Thursday after 14 years with the Portsmouth Police Department.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — Henry, the police dog, helped the Animal Control Officer this weekend. ACO Futoma wanted to try out the department's new microchip scanner. The device helps reunite lost pets with their families by reading the number on a chip embedded under the skin. The chip is about the size of a grain of rice. Henry has a chip, so he sat in his mom's lap and demonstrated.
Henry, known to fellow officers as Ofc. Henry C. Pappas, and his mom, police clerk Debbi Pappas, are retiring this week. The little guy's been following her to work since he was a puppy. He's a morale booster at the police station. But now, it's on to a new chapter after a job well done.
