Members of the Portsmouth Fire Department responded to a fire at Greenleaf Compassion Center on West Main Road Wednesday afternoon during which a man suffered burns.

Portsmouth Fire Dep. Chief Michael P. O’Brien said that crews arrived to find no fire— employees had extinguished the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher before firefighters arrived.

The call came in at around 12:49 p.m., O’Brien said, and the Tiverton Fire Department responded with a rescue transport that brought the victim to Rhode Island Hospital.

Crews cleared the scene at around 3:20 p.m.

The victim’s condition was not released.

The dispensary posted a message on its Facebook page on Wednesday notifying patients that they will be closed for the remainder of the day “due to an electrical problem.”

“ Thank you for your patience. We will keep you posted with any updates,” they said.
