Man Rescued After Falling Off Boat Off Coast Of Portsmouth
Fire officials said the man was wearing waders, which got filled with water and caused him to sink.
PORTSMOUTH, RI — Portsmouth firefighters rescued a man Monday morning who officials said fell off his boat.
Around 9:30 a.m., fire officials were called to the water off Fountain Avenue in Island Park when a man fell off the boat and did not resurface. A witness told fire officials the man was about 70 feet from shore.
Two firefighters swam out and got the man above water, fire officials said. Fire officials said the man was wearing waders, which got filled with water and caused him to sink.

The rescue took about 20 minutes, according to officials. Emergency officials brought the man to a local hospital for evaluation.
