New Recreation Director Position Discussed on PTW
Town Administrator John Klimm and Town Finance Director, Jim Lathrop were our guests on last Friday's edition of PTW
The newly created Recreation Director position was the topic for the 24 October edition of Portsmouth this Week, the “Voice of Portsmouth Town Hall”. John Klimm and Jim Lathrop were on hand to discuss the new part time position, the qualifications being looked for in this position, and the hopes that this reorganization could eventually lead to a more efficient use of town recreational facilities. Unlike most other Rhode Island communities, Portsmouth has had no Recreation Department coordinating the use, maintenance and funding of our various town recreational facilities. Since the mid-1990s, this has been the function of several individual town committees, comprised of volunteers reporting directly to the Town Council. The new position creates an opportunity for an entrepreneurial individual to oversee the operation of the various beaches, parks and other recreational facilities in town and examine new potential revenue streams to support them.
