Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras Rolling Admissions Continue Through the Summer; August 22nd Audition Date Added

The Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras, the largest youth orchestra program in northeast Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, Â will be holding throughout the summer for the 2013-2014 concert season. An additional audition date has been set for Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Ipswich High School in Ipswich, MA. Musicians who are not available on that date can be accommodated for an alternate time during the summer. Music students from throughout the region are invited to register to audition for any of the ensembles NMYO offers:
- Symphony Orchestra - high school musicians
- Wind Ensemble - advanced wind players

- Intermezzo Orchestra - middle school level musicians
- Overture and Prelude Orchestras - elementary and middle school string players seeking early ensemble experience

- Junior Flute Choir - middle school flutists
- Flute Choir - high school flutists
- Select Flute Choir - advanced high school flutists
Auditions for all ensembles will be held on this date.
 In the 2012-2013 season, NMYO musicians not only performed in major concerts, but also in outreach performances throughout the region; played in professionally coached chamber ensembles; wrote and performed an original piece with Composer-in-Residence, Robert Bradshaw; performed chamber repertoire at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport; attended master classes and had an orchestral coaching sessions with professional musicians; participated in a side-by-side rehearsal with the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra; and competed in the concerto competition. Equally exciting opportunities are being planned for the upcoming season.
 The mission of the Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras (NMYO) is to provide young musicians with exceptional ensemble training and opportunities for personal growth through musical performance and community service. Led by Music Director Gerald J. Dolan Jr., with an accomplished team of music professionals, NMYO creates community connections and collaborations for its young players. NMYO’s musicians come from over 40 towns and participate in one of eight ensembles offered by the program. The regular rehearsal and concert schedule is supplemented with master classes, enrichment days, chamber music coaching, community service outreach concerts to underserved populations, and a composer in residence program.
