Paint Recycling Program Continues To Expand in Rhode Island
Healthy Home Shop in Portsmouth Joins PaintCare Program
PaintCare is pleased to announce that Healthy Home Shop located at 1844 East Main Road in Portsmouth has joined a network of 33 locations in Rhode Island where residents and businesses from across the state can bring old, unwanted paint for recycling during their regular business hours.
More than 65 million gallons of architectural paint is sold each year in the U.S, and about 10 percent is left over and available for recycling. Until recently, this paint has been primarily handled by government-run household hazardous waste programs. Many of these government programs are also working with PaintCare.

“With the addition of the Healthy Home Shop in Portsmouth, the PaintCare program has 33 locations where Ocean State residents can easily drop-off leftover, unwanted paint,” said Laura Honis, Rhode Island Program Manager for PaintCare. “The program’s growth in the small state of Rhode Island is a huge testament to the care people in this state have for the environment and recycling,” added Honis.
PaintCare makes it simple for the stores to join the program to be paint drop-off locations for their community. The stores volunteer to provide a little space for storage bins -- when they are full, PaintCare arranges for the paint to be picked up and recycled.

All brands of unwanted house paint, stain and varnish are accepted at PaintCare sites, regardless of the brand or age. In addition to the Ocean State, PaintCare also runs programs in seven other states, including Connecticut, Maine and Vermont -- and is planning a program to start this year in the District of Columbia.
