• Rhode Island Foundation offering up to $10,000 for Newport County community projects; deadline is Sept. 24 (whatsupnewp.com) — Portsmouth organizations have a fresh chance at up to $10,000 as the Rhode Island Foundation accepts neighborhood grant applications for Newport County projects that bring residents together. With past funding reaching Melville Elementary School in Portsmouth, local libraries, schools, and nonprofits are encouraged to propose visible, community-accessible projects by the Sept. 24 deadline.
   

• Who won Thursday's RI high school games? We've got it covered (newportri.com) — Portsmouth High girls soccer rallied past Chariho 2-1, highlighted by goalkeeper Greyson Helie's 500th career save, and the girls volleyball team narrowly fell to Cumberland in five sets. Today, Portsmouth hosts Tiverton in girls tennis at 3:30 p.m., giving local fans a chance to support the Patriots at home alongside a full slate of statewide high school action.
