Police Announce Road Closures for Sept. 24 Amica Triathlon

ROAD CLOSURES FOR AMICA TRIATHLON SEP 24. 2011 

MIDDLETOWN, R.I., On Saturday, September 24, 2011, the Amica Triathlon will be held in Middletown and Portsmouth.

The triathlon will start at approximately 7:30 a.m. and will end around 11:30 a.m. 

The swim portion of the triathlon will take place at the Third Beach.

The course for the bicycle portion of the race is as follows:

Cyclists will exit the Third Beach Parking lot and make a left turn onto the Third Beach Access Road and head south towards Sachuest Point road.

They will then make a left turn onto Sachuest Point Road and head east towards Sachuest Point.

They will turn around at the Sachuest Point Wildlife Refuge and head west on Sachuest Point Road. The cyclists will make a left turn onto Purgatory Road and a left onto Tuckerman Avenue.

A right turn onto Wolcott Avenue and head north, right turn onto Aquidneck Avenue, Right turn onto Morrison Avenue, Straight onto Compton View Road, Right turn onto Green End Avenue, left turn onto Berkeley Avenue. 

The cyclists will make a left turn onto Wyatt Road, right turn onto Turner Road, right turn on to East Main Road and head north into Portsmouth.  

In Portsmouth, the cyclists will turn right onto Sandy Point Avenue and then right onto Wapping Road. 

They will re-enter Middletown on Wapping Road near the intersection of Wapping Road and Peckham Avenue. Riders will then turn left onto Riverview Avenue, left onto Green End Avenue, left onto Vanicek Avenue, right onto Peckham Avenue, Right onto Indian Avenue, left onto Third Beach Road, right onto Sachuest Point and end at the Second Beach Parking Lot.  

The competitors will leave their bicycles and switch over to the 3.1-mile run.

The runners will head west on Sachuest Point Road, right onto Hanging Rock Road, left onto Third Beach road and head north. The runners will turn around near the intersection of Third Beach Road and Howland Avenue and head south on Third Beach Road.

The runners will make a right onto Hanging Rock Road, left on Sachuest Point Road and end the triathlon at the Second Beach Main Lot.
