Police Arrest Portsmouth Man on Drunk Driving Charges

Middletown police reportedly stopped his pickup truck near 823 West Main Road shortly after 2 am.

Middletown police  arrested a Portsmouth man early Wednesday morning for allegedly driving drunk after leaving an area bar.  

Michael R. Rolando, 29, of 18 Willow Court, Portsmouth, was driving on West Main Road around 2 am when police reportedly observed his 2002 Dodge pickup truck swerve into the opposite travel lane and stopped his car near 823 West Main Road.

According to police reports, Rolando allegedly told them he had five alcoholic beverages that night. Police at the scene also conducted field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test, which registered Rolando's blood-alcohol level at .134, according to police reports.

Rolando was charged with a misdemeanor first offense of driving under the influence of alcohol and also cited for refusing to take a chemical test, for having illegal tints on his truck windows, and for obstructing the view of rear license plates because of the location of a trailer hitch.

He was to be arraigned in Second District Court Wednesday morning.
