Police ID ATV Crash Victim

The Newport 19-year-old was ejected from his ATV after he crashed on Defense Highway, also known as Burma Road, in Portsmouth Sunday night.

The 19-year-old man who was thrown from the ATV he was riding on Defense Highway Sunday night in Portsmouth has been identified.

Portsmouth police said Samuel Harrington, 19, of Newport, was unresponsive when police and firefighters arrived at the scene of the crash just north of the Weaver Cove Boat Ramp entrance.

Police said in a news release that officers found several witnesses tending to Harrington when they arrived shortly before 8 p.m.

The witnesses said that Harrington was heading south on the road, also referred to as Burma Road, when he struck the guardrail and was ejected.

Police dispatched an accident reconstruction team to the scene and the accident remains under investigation, police said.

Police did not disclose Harrington’s condition at Rhode Island Hospital, which is where he was transported with life-threatening injuries, according to the Portsmouth Fire Department.
