Police Log: 5 DUIs, Disorderly Conduct, Construction Vehicles Vandalized

The following arrest and incidents were reported by the Portsmouth Police Department. They do not indicate a conviction.

DOMESTIC
Police charged Derek Matthew Justice, 36, of 65 Lee Ave., Portsmouth, with domestic simple assault Sept. 17 at 9:34 p.m.

Police said Justice allegedly struck a woman in the face during an argument.

DUIs
Police charged William Bowley Nimmo, 63, 26 Aberdeen Road, Portsmouth, with driving under the influence Sept. 17 at 4:50 p.m.

Police said Nimmo was observed driving erratically on West Main Road and Route 24 and did not immediately stop for police.

When he did stop, police said, they found a hot-to-the-touch vaporizer and marijuana inside his vehicle.

Nimmo showed police his state-issued medical marijuana card and was not charged for possession.

But police said he “appeared to be highly disoriented and confused” as he answered police questions, according to a police report, and failed a field sobriety test at the scene.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Police charged Matthew Ryan Hunt, 27, of 128 Fischer Circle, Portsmouth, with driving under the influence and refusing a chemical test Sept. 14 at 5:50 a.m.

Police said Hunt was found sleeping in his car with the engine running on Old Mill Lane. He told police that he was coming back from a wedding in Newport and decided to stop to rest.

He failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody without incident.

Police charged Manuel Antonio Gonzalez, 30, of 57 Norseman Drive, Portsmouth, with driving under the influence, refusing a chemical test and driving with a suspended license Sept. 14 at 6:56 p.m.

Police said Gonzalez was involved in an accident on Route 24 near the Anthony Road exit.

Gonzalez reportedly showed signs of intoxication and failed a field sobriety test at the scene.

Police charged Nicole Vaudry, 30, of 1607 Braley Road, New Bedford, Mass., with driving under the influence and refusing a chemical test Sept. 15 at 12:57 a.m.

Police said Vaudry was stopped for speeding on West Main Road and the officer smelled alcohol on her breath.

She failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody without incident.

Police charged David Alan Ferreira, 49, of 56 Wood Ave., Tiverton, with driving under the influence Sept. 12 at 5:31 p.m.

Police said Ferreira was driving erratically on East Main Road before he was stopped. He failed a field sobriety test at the scene and was taken into custody without incident.

DISORDERLY
Police charged Ryan Russell DeBlois, 33, of 109 Cottage Ave., Portsmouth, with disorderly conduct Sept. 17 at 4:08 p.m.

Police said they responded to the area of Morgan and Liberty Streets for a report of a man unconscious in the middle of the road.

The found DeBlolis walking in the lane of travel on Park Avenue, obstructing traffic, according to a police report, and he was unsteady on his feet.

Police said DeBlois showed signs of intoxication and was taken into custody for disorderly conduct.

FOUL BALL
Police took a report from a 69-year-old Barrington woman after her car was damaged by a foul ball at the Gardner Seveny Sports Complex on Sept. 14.

Police said the woman parked her car near the baseball field and the rear window was shattered by the foul ball at around 12:41 p.m.

EQUIPMENT DAMAGED
Someone took a baseball bat to construction vehicles that have been used for demolition work at 226 West Shore Road, police said.

On Sept, 12, police met with the owner of Aquidneck Construction, who told them that an excavator, loader and bulldozer were damaged recently.

The damage occurred twice over the past two weeks, he said, and police reported observing broken windows, smashed mirrors, damaged wiring, and numerous engine components “had been destroyed or tampered with,” according to a police report.

The damage appeared to have been caused by blows from a blunt object and an aluminum baseball bat with fresh damage was found nearby.

Police are investigating.

SOLICITING
Police charged Maurice Diontae Spencer, 30, of Detroit, MI, with soliciting without a permit Sept. 15 at 3:24 p.m.

Police said they took Spencer into custody on Fischer Circle after a report of a man going door-to-door asking for money.

DISORDERLY
Police charged Joshua Timothy Gilchrest, 21, of 34 Selina Lane, Portsmouth, with disorderly conduct Sept. 14 at 2:41 a.m.

Police said Gilchrest was yelling obscenities and generating a lot of noise near the Island Tap shortly after 1 a.m.

Gilchrest reportedly ignored numerous requests to keep his voice down.

WARRANTS
Police charged Phillip Paz, 30, of 408 Ridge St., Fall River, with a warrant Sept. 17 at 4:20 p.m.

Police said Paz was stopped for speeding on East Main Road and a check of his ID showed he had two outstanding bench warrants.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Police charged Vanessa Duarte Fonseca, 27, of 7 Pascale Drive, Lincoln, with a warrant Sept. 16 at 11:59 p.m.

Police said Fonseca was stopped for an inoperable tail light and a check showed she was wanted by Pawtucket police for a larceny charge.

She was also cited for marijuana possession after a search turned up a small amount in her car, police said.

Police charged Sohail Elgamdi, 29, of 3 Stuart St., Warren, with a warrant Sept. 18 at 3:31 p.m.
