Police Seek Accreditation, Residents Asked to Comment
The state's assessment team arrives in Town on Oct. 27, and residents are invited to call in by telephone between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

PORTSMOUTH, RI -- The local police department is taking advantage of a new state program, which offers similar benefits, but at a more economical price, than the national accreditation program.
According to police in a Tuesday morning social media post, the department has been preparing for a visit from the state assessors, who are coming to Town on Oct. 27 to examine all the department's policies and procedures, as well as "management, operations and support services."
Public comment is part of the process, so residents are invited to call 401-524-6975 between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Oct. 27 to speak to the assessors. However, the telephone calls are limited to 10 minutes and must stick to the topic, which is the department's ability to comply with the standards.
