Police Seize Heroin after Traffic Stop

Police charged a 25-year-old Bourne, Mass., man with felony drug charges after he was stopped for speeding.

A 25-year-old Massachusetts man is facing felony drug charges after Portsmouth police stopped him for speeding and found 16 bags of heroin in his car.

Police said Richard Maurice Hubley III, 25, was driving 40 mph in 25 mph zone on Park Avenue near Boyd’s Lane at around 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

Once stopped, Hubley became nervous and started sweating profusely, according to a police report, and told police that he had some heroin and used syringes in his car.

After a search, police found six bags of heroin in his wallet, and another 10 bags in a cigarette box along with a partially-smoked marijuana cigarette in the passenger door compartment.

Also in the door compartment were two needles.

A passenger in the car was not charged after Hubley said all the drugs in the car were his.

Hubley was taken into custody without incident and was charged with felony drug possession. He was also cited for speeding and marijuana possession.

He was released on surety bail and is due to return to Second Division District Court on Sept. 9 for an Attorney General screening.
