Portsmouth Firefighters Rescue 3 From Burning Boat

PORTSMOUTH, RI — Portsmouth firefighters rescued three people on Tuesday from a boat fire.

Just before 9:30 a.m., Portsmouth fire officials were called from Narragansett Bay to just west of Gould Island. Crews found the 50-foot vessel engulfed in heavy flames coming from the bow, fire officials said.

The U.S. Coast Guard was called in to rescue the boaters, and the fire was quickly extinguished, fire officials said.

Fire crews from Newport, Bristol, and Warwick assisted on scene. No injuries were reported.
