Portsmouth High Girls' Lacrosse Win Against Islanders 11-8
The Middletown Girls Lacrosse Team played against Portsmouth High for their opening round playoff game Friday night and saw their 2011 season end with an 11-8 loss.
's girls' lacrosse team remained victorious Friday night with a 11-8 win over the Middletown High School Islanders.
The game started out well for Middletown. They struck first and fast, as Riley Smith scored 13 seconds into the game. Sophomore Zoe Mazzulli scored a short time later to give the Islanders an early 2-0 lead.
Portsmouth struck back a minute later, cutting the lead to one. Middletown then took the two-goal lead back on a rocket from Kirsten Perry.

Portsmouth rattled off three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead. Middletown settled down and tied the game up on a goal from Elizabeth Durgin. Portsmouth struck again shortly before the end of the first half to take a 5-4 lead into halftime.
Elizabeth Durgin picked up where she left off in the first, as she scored the first goal of the half three minutes in, to tie the game at 5.

Portsmouth charged down the field on the next offensive possession and after a big time stop from Islander goalkeeper Taylor O'Malley, Kirsten Perry then raced down field and scored her second goal of the game to give the lead back to Middletown.
It turned out to be short lived as Portsmouth scored quickly to tie the game once again.
Kirsten Perry then picked up a hat trick as she put her team on her shoulders and took the lead back with 16:35 left in the game.
Freshman speedster Liza Wauters scored an Islander goal a minute later to give Middletown some breathing room, up 8-6 with a little over 15 minutes to play.
That ended up being Middletown's last goal of the game. Portsmouth went on a 5-0 run to close out the game and put an end to the Islanders' season.
