Playground To Be Treated for Mosquitoes

The following is from a town press release. 

In response to the high number of adult biting mosquitoes as verified by landing counts conducted by the town’s contractor for mosquito control, the Town of Portsmouth is authorized to conduct a test area for treatment with an EPA exempt product: Mosquito Barrier, a natural garlic based product.

The town’s contractor, Narragansett Pest Control, will be applying the product at by truck mounted and /or ground spraying equipment starting this Friday morning (weather dependent) and continuing for the next two weeks.

Residents should experience no disruption in the use of the playground. The product will be applied to brush and tall vegetation in the test area that dries on contact causing no ecological threat to beneficial insects or plants.

This treatment is not intended to address the current outbreak of adult mosquitoes on the north end of town. We ask our residents in the playground area for their input as to the effectiveness of the product.
