Education Foundation Honors Nancy Fitzgerald As 'Teacher of the Year'
Fitzgerald, a teacher at Portsmouth High School, says she plans to use the grant to purchase cardio equipment for the high school's fitness center.
The Portsmouth Public Education Foundation celebrated its 10th anniversary Thursday evening at the .
About 200 people were in attendance including educators, school committee members and benefactors.
The honoree for the night was teacher Nancy Fitzgerald, who was named "Teacher of the Year." She received a $1,000 grant as part of the honor.

“I’m very humbled and honored. I want to thank everyone,” she said.
Fitzgerald plans to use the grant to purchase cardio equipment for the Fitness Center at Portsmouth High Schoool.

The foundation's mission is to “improve and enhance the quality of education experiences for all Portsmouth Public School students” and award grants to “projects that otherwise would not be possible.”
“We have awarded $89,000 through 149 grants over our 10 years as a foundation,” said PPEF’s President Marilyn Brockway.
The event also featured a silent auction that included a round of golf at Newport National Golf Club, four tickets to the Providence Performing Arts Center and a one-year membership to the Redwood Library.
