The Portsmouth United Methodist has been going on mission trips to the Appalachia mountains for the last 12 years with the youth from grades 7 through 12. They go each year in late March or early April, they plan the projects in advance that they will work on. The projects vary from year to year, they might put a roof on a house, build a handicap ramp or install windows in homes that are in disrepair.
The trip is so rewarding and the youth find it inspiring, enriching and gives them an opportunity to help others. The folks that helped are so very grateful.
The pumpkin patch located on 2732 East Main Rd Portsmouth, RI supports the mission project and is open through Oct. 31st from 11 to 7 everyday. All proceeds from the pumpkin patch supports the mission trip.
It is an opportunity to help others and to teach and share with the youth the value of helping our neighbors whether they are local or in the Appalachians.
