School Committee Creates New Assistant Principal Position for Grades 4, 5

The Portsmouth School Committee met Tuesday, Feb. 28.

The Portsmouth School Committee approved a new assistant principal position, as well as heard results from the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) tests at its Tuesday meeting. 

Jeff Schoonover, interim director of Instruction and Assessment, presented an overview of student performance on the state-mandated NECAP test. As a district, 87 percent of students met or exceeded state standards on the NECAP reading assessment and 76% of students met or exceeded state standards on the NECAP math assessment.

The school committee also approved the creation of a new assistant principal for grades 4 and 5. This position will replace the grade 4 and 5 house leader position.
