Want A Shark On Your RI License Plate? Here's How To Get 1

The shark themed license plates can be ordered online​. They cost $42.50, and $20 from each plate benefits the Atlantic Shark Institute.

RHODE ISLAND — Shark enthusiasts in Rhode Island will get an opportunity to show off their passion on their vehicles, with the launch of shark theme license plates.

The Atlantic Shark Institute released a charity license plate on Thursday, depicting a shark designed and painted by marine artist Paul McPhee. The plate features of mako shark, which is endangered worldwide, researchers with the institute said.

"We are really excited to finally make this plate available to Rhode Island residents," institute Executive Director Jon Dodd said. "The timing is perfect as we enter the sharky summer season here in Rhode Island."

The shark themed license plates can be ordered on the Atlantic Shark Institute's website. They cost $42.50, and $20 from each plate benefits the institute.

To ensure you get a plate, order as soon as possible. The Rhode Island DMV does not produce charity plates until at least 600 are preordered.
