Town Will Install 15mph Speed Limit Signs in Sea Meadow Farms Neighborhood

The new signs are the result of a safety meeting called after concerns raised by a fatal pedestrian accident last month.

New 15mph speed limit signs will be installed on Lepes Road and new stop signs will be installed throughout Sea Meadow Farms after feedback from residents, according to the Portsmouth Police Department.

Portsmouth’s Police Chief Tom Lee and Public Works Director Dave Kehew met with residents of Sea Meadow Farms Thursday night at Town Hall after concerns were raised about safety following the fatal pedestrian accident last month that took the life of an 83-year-old woman.

Police have stepped up enforcement of traffic laws in the area since the accident, but residents have been asking for additional measures to improve what they say has been an ongoing problem with speeding cars and stop sign violations.

The Town Council addressed the issue in late October after the Sea Meadow Farms Neighborhood Association sent a letter to the town and referred to the accident that killed Marilyn Oglo as “a call to action.”

The driver in the accident, Barbara Krensavage, of 82 Lambie Circle, was charged with driving to endanger, death resulting and reckless driving.
