Video: Portsmouth Police Use Body Cameras For Crosswalk Citations

PORTSMOUTH, RI — Police are cracking down on giving out tickets for failing to stop at crosswalks and are using newly issued body cameras to do so.


Officer Amanda Weaver conducted the operation Thursday and Friday at Turnpike Avenue near Portsmouth High School by pretending to be a mother pushing a baby carriage. Police said they have issued several citations and many vehicles were seen not letting Weaver cross.

"A woman crossing the street with her child complained to (Police) (Tom) Chief Lee that vehicles do not stop for her," Portsmouth Police said on Facebook. "We replicated that scenario and put Officer Weaver out there today."
