Viewfinder: Portsmouth High School Students Strum and Drum at Annual Concert

Portsmouth High School (PHS) music department presented its 2011 schoalship concert Tuesday night at the PHS auditorium to an engaged crowd of family, friends and faculty. 

The two and a half-hour concert featured the Concert Chorus, Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, PHS-Select Wind Ensemble and the Symphonic Band. 

All proceeds from the event go to support the Portsmouth High Music Boosters, who continue to raise funds in support of the music department.

The evening's proceeds go directly into the scholarship fund from which five $750 scholarships are available to graduating seniors, who have been involved in the music program during their high school careers. The awards for these students will be handed out at the annual Music Banquet on June 2.

Many times during the evening, directors of the music program thanked all involved in making the music program possible and specifically the Portsmouth community "for your continued support of our programs."

Next up fot the band is a six-day trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, where the marching band will, among other things, perform in the SpectroMagic Parade at Magic Kingdom.

A will take place at Ocean Cliff Resort in Newport to benefit the music departments of Rogers, Middletown and Portsmouth High Schools. Live entertainment will be provided for this 21 and older-event.
