Whiz Kid: Corinne Clapper Wins School $1,000 Grant for Eco-Challenge

Corinne Clapper is a Portsmouth resident and a student at the East Bay Met School in Newport.

This week, we spotlight Corinne Clapper, a Portsmouth resident and student at the Met School in Newport.

Name: Corinne Clapper
School: Junior, East Bay Met School in Newport
Accomplishment: Corinne wrote and was awarded a $1,000 grant as part of the 2011 Eco-Challenge program for her East Bay Met School's Green Team.

As part of the program, the New England Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has selected the East Bay Met School's Green Team to receive an Environmental Merit Award in recognition of its exceptional work and commitment to the environment in 2010.

A special ceremony will be held at Faneuil Hall in Boston on Wednesday, May 11,  from 1 to 3 p.m. This annual ceremony has recognized the environmental achievements of New Englanders for more than three decades.

Key to Awesomeness: Corinne also recently returned from a month-long trip to Australia/New Zealand that she planned, raised funds for and centered a school project around. She worked with head of the Big Picture Schools in Australia, Viv White. She also conducted seminars for some of the schools and students, as well as studied the country's environmental efforts.
