Whiz Kid: Mary Camara Shows Creativity to Benefit Cancer Patients
Mary Camara, a third-grader at Melville Elementary School, recently donated her own painting to help raise money for cancer research.

This week, we spotlight Mary Camara, a third-grader at Melville Elementary School, who recently donated her own painting to help raise money for cancer research.
Name: Mary Camara
School: Grade 3,
Accomplishment: Mary Camara created a painting and donated the work of art to a fundraiser, which will sell the painting to raise money for cancer research. This is the second year Camara has donated such a painting to the fundraiser in Newport. The donation is especially personal for Mary since her aunt is a breast cancer survivor.
Key to Awesomeness: Mary also works hard to raise money for various benefits. She was one of the top three kids in Melville Elementary School to raise funds for the American Heart Association Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. Last year, she also cut off 12 inches of her hair to donate to Locks of Love, an organization which uses the hair to create wigs for cancer patients. She is also a Feinstein Junior Scholar.
