Suspicions of Victim's Relationship to Husband Led to Stabbing

Police said Jennifer Allen was suspicious of a personal connection between a Franklin & Company Design Associates employee and her husband.

Police say the Tiverton woman who , then shot and killed herself last Tuesday was suspcious that the victim had a personal relationship with her husband.

Newport Police Sgt. Christopher Hayes said Jennifer Allen, 32, of Tiverton, targeted the 28-year-old Newport woman, due to suspicions of a personal relationship between her and Allen’s husband, Steve Viveiros.

Allen went to the woman's office and confronted her and several other employees while wielding both a knife and . Allen before turning the gun on herself, police report.

The victim told police there was no personal history between she and Viveiros.

“There was some communication or personal matter between them,” Sgt. Hayes said. Police say they have not confirmed whether the woman had a relationship with Viveiros or not. They are still trying to determine the official motive of the incident.

According to a Facebook status update from the Newport Daily News, the two may have known each other since Viveiros has done painting work for Franklin & Company.
