3 Dead Birds Left in Box at Cemetery: Providence Police

Providence police are investigating a gruesome discovery at a cemetery near Elmwood Avenue and Broad Street.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Providence police were called around 6 p.m. Wednesday to a cemetery near the corner of Broad Street and Elmwood Avenue. According to the report, the caller said he found three cardboard boxes near the fence and could see three dead birds inside. The animal control officer and police confirmed one of the dead birds was a chicken.

The second bird appeared to be a guinea hen, and the third one was a dove. The dove had been decapitated, and a second head was found inside that box. The other two birds were found intact.

Police said the animal control officer took custody of the dead birds and the lieutenant was notified.
