7 Arrested Following 2 Providence Nightclub Shootings

Rhode Island State Police announced the arrest of seven people in connection with two shootings in Providence.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Seven people were arrested in connection with a pair of shootings at city clubs, Rhode Island State Police said Monday night. The first shooting happened May 20 at Club Seven while the second was just a few days ago near El Patio. Both shootings were believed to be gang-related.

All seven people were arrested Sunday night and early Monday morning.

The first shooting happened around 1:10 a.m. May 20 on Club Seven on Spruce Street. Two unnamed people were shot and suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

On Sunday, one person was injured in the second shooting, which happened near the El Patio Night Club on Public Street around 9:50 p.m. The victim, 29-year-old Jean Garrido, was shot in the back and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in stable condition. He is among those facing charges.

State police Major Timothy Sanzi said multiple shots were fired in each incident. The following people were arrested in connection with the shootings:

Janssye Toucet, 32, of Bicentennial Way, North Providence

  • For May 20 shooting, charged with:
    • Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
    • Two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon
    • Two counts of discharge of firearm resulting in injury
    • Possession of a pistol without a license
    • Possession of a firearm after a conviction for a crime of violence
  • For June 16 shooting, charged with:
    • Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
    • Assault with a dangerous weapon
    • Using a firearm while committing a crime of violence
    • Possession of a pistol without a license
    • Possession of a firearm after a conviction for a crime of violence

Tatiana Flores, 25, of Marion Avenue, Providence

  • For May 20 shooting, charged with:
    • Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
    • Two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon
    • Two counts of discharge of firearm resulting In injury
    • Possession of a pistol without a license
  • For June 16 shooting, charged with:
    • Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
    • Assault with a dangerous weapon
    • Using a firearm while committing a crime of violence
    • Possession of a pistol without a license

The rest of the suspects were arrested only in connection with Sunday's shooting. They are:

Jonathan Garrido, 26, of Plainfield Street, Providence

  • Conspiracy to sell firearm
  • Possession of firearm after committing a crime of violence

Anthony Florian, 26, of Pierce Avenue, Warwick

  • Possession of a pistol without a license
  • Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Using a firearm while committing a crime of violence
  • Firing in a compact area
  • Eluding police
  • Possession of a firearm after committing a crime of violence

Keven Restrepo, 28, of Laurel Hill Avenue, Cranston

  • Possession of a pistol without a license
  • Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Using a firearm while committing a crime of violence
  • Firing in a compact area
  • Possession of a firearm after conviction of a crime of violence

Jean Garrido, 29, of Plainfield Street, Providence

  • Possession of a pistol without a license
  • Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Using a firearm while committing a crime of violence
  • Firing in a compact area

Nathan Geter, 28, of Blackstone Street, Woonsocket

  • Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-cocaine
  • Possession of a firearm while possessing with intent to deliver a controlled substance-cocaine
  • Conspiracy to sell a firearm
  • Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance within a school zone
  • Resisting arrest
  • Obstruction

All of the suspects except Garrido were processed at Rhode Island State Police headquarters and held overnight pending formal arraignments. Garrido will be arraigned at a later time.

State police said the investigation on ongoing and more arrests are likely.
