Man Stabbed In Back At Providence Family Dollar Store: Police

PROVIDENCE, RI — A man was stabbed in the back at a Providence Family Dollar Tuesday evening, police said.

Shortly before 7 p.m., officers responded to a report of a stabbing on Chalkstone Avenue, Kristy dosReis, the chief public information officer for the Providence Department of Public Safety, said in an email.

"Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a single stab wound to the back," dosReis said.

"The victim informed police that the stabbing occurred at the Family Dollar on Smith Street," dosReis said. "The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition."

The stabbing remains under investigation.
