Providence Man Charged With Cutting Bracelet, Absconding From NC: Cops

The Providence man was captured by the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force, police said.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence man charged with absconding from North Carolina was apprehended by the Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force, police said.

James Carey, 29, was wanted as a fugitive of justice from Greensboro, North Carolina, "on an original charge of rape of a child/failure to register as a sex offender and absconding out of North Carolina(cut bracelet) on an original charge of driving under the influence," the state police said in a media release.

"The arrest was the result of an investigation by the Violent Fugitive Task Force," the release said.

"Mr. Carey was taken into custody without incident, " according to the release, and was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks before he was taken to Sixth District Court for an arraignment.
