Teen Charged With Murder In Connection With Providence Gun Attack: Cops

The 17-year-old was charged with gunning down a man in Swift Street in May, police said.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A teen was charged with murder in connection with a deadly gun attack on Spring Street, police said.

The 17-year-old was arraigned Tuesday in Family Court on a charge of murder in connection with the May 11 killing of Joseph Ramos, according to a media release from the Providence Department of Public Safety.

Ramos, 20, was found with a gunshot wound to his head on Swift near Spring Street shortly after 2:15 a.m., the release said.

"Ramos, who was reportedly riding a three-wheeled motor bike at the time of the incident, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased," according to the release.

"This was a senseless act of violence that took the life of a 20-year-old young man and deeply impacted his family and our community," Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez said in the release.

"Our detectives worked diligently to identify the person responsible, and I commend them for their commitment to this investigation," Perez said. "We will continue working to ensure accountability and seek justice for Mr. Ramos and his family."
