“As follow up to this morning's incident at Alvarez High School, the Providence Police discovered that there was an AR-15, a dangerous semiautomatic weapon, in the home of the student who made the video. Due to the swift actions of PPD, in collaboration with the resource officers at the school, the weapon has been secured and there remains no threat to Alvarez or any Providence Public School. We take matters like this very seriously and given national trends, investigate every credible threat thoroughly. The student will not return to school until this particular investigation is complete but this is a sobering reminder that weapons like these do not belong here in Providence. The PPD in collaboration with PSD worked very closely in quickly resolving this matter.”
