Bulletproof Vest Saved Providence Officer After Shooting: Reports
Providence teen Tyrone Robinson, who was out on bail on gun, drug charges since May, is accused of shooting Officer Matt McGloin Friday.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A local teen with a history of arrests, including gun and drug charges, was arrested Friday accused of shooting a police officer, according to WJAR-TV. Tyrone Robinson, 19, who was out on bail on gun and drug charges from an incident in May, was arrested near the scene of the shooting last night. Police accuse him of shooting at officers on Douglas Avenue, fleeing the scene, while dropping his guns along the way.
Officers, according to the early part of the investigation, returned fire at Robinson, firing several shots, the Providence Journal reported. Robinson was arrested at a home on Douglas Avenue.
Officer Matt McGloin, who has been a member of the police force for about a decade and works on the Violent Crime Task Force, is recovering a Rhode Island Hospital.

The task force was involved in a previous arrest of Robinson, ProJo noted, back in May on a marijuana dealing and firearm possession charges. He is reportedly a member of an East Side gang, according to police.
Police credit a bulletproof vest McGloin was wearing for keeping him alive.
