“LIKE Me” : Social Media & Digital Connection - An original performance weaving together acting, dance, and song to explore how we curate, perform, and search for connection in the digital age.
[Providence, RI] — [DEC 4-7, 2025] — Rhode Island College Department of Theatre & Dance presents LIKE Me: Social Media & Digital Connection, an original devised dance, song & theatre performance conceived and directed by Angelica Vessella & Bill Wilson, exploring how social media shapes identity, connection, and loneliness in a world obsessed with validation. Performed with a live band, and an ensemble of 23 students, LIKE Me fuses dance, movement, song and spoken word to reveal the raw emotional terrain beneath our curated online lives.
Set in an alley-style stage with the audience on both sides, the production immerses viewers in a world of social media of our youth—scrolling through stories of self-image, belonging, and the need to be seen. From the chaos of online comments to the quiet ache of isolation, LIKE Me captures the rhythm of the digital age with honesty, humor, and humanity.
“This piece explores identity in a phone obsessed world’—not just online, but as a person,” says director Angelica Vessella. “It’s about our search for connection in a world that keeps us scrolling instead of seeing.”
The performance features original choreography and monologues developed collaboratively by the all-student cast, reflecting their personal experiences with social media. Through song and word, the movement blends contemporary dance and pedestrian gestures with moments of stillness, confrontation, and vulnerability—mirroring the emotional peaks and valleys of the online experience. Music Direction by Lila Kane.
