Gabe Amo, Candidate for Congress, Traveled Across RI's 1st District

Yesterday, Gabe Amo, candidate for U.S. Congress, traveled across the First Congressional District, talking to everyday Rhode Islanders, including small business owners, entrepreneurs, bakers, and our District’s seniors. The Amo campaign continued its #GabeOnTheRhode series with its second tour across Lincoln, Providence, and North Providence.

Amo, who was recently endorsed by the Mayor of Highland Park, IL Nancy Rotering and former White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain, in addition to earlier endorsements from local leaders Newport Mayor Xay and former Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch, spent his day focused on the issues faced by middle class residents, small businesses, and seniors living in the First District.

“This campaign is about our shared Rhode Island values — ensuring that life in our District is better tomorrow than it is today. We need a leader in Washington who is focused on making sure that we grow our economy, as President Biden often says, from the bottom up and the middle out,” said Amo. “I was proud to help President Biden implement important legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, but there’s so much more to do when it comes to growing and strengthening the economy. In Congress, I will fight hard to secure Rhode Island’s economic future for the next generation of small business leaders.”

Gabe Amo is a proud Rhode Islander, a Pawtucket native, and the son of Ghanaian and Liberian immigrants. His mother is a nurse and his father is a small business owner. He graduated from Moses Brown School in Providence, where he was President of the Student Senate and received the Rhode Island Secretary of State’s Civic Leadership Award. Gabe graduated from Wheaton College magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and was also President of the Student Government Association. He received a Truman Scholarship for public service, and after graduating, received a Marshall Scholarship to study public policy at Oxford.

Gabe’s commitment to service inspired him to work in the Obama and Biden administrations, as well as for former Governor Gina Raimondo. Under President Obama, Gabe served in the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. He was then appointed by former Rhode Island
Governor Gina Raimondo to serve as her Director of Public Engagement and Community Affairs. Most recently and until April 2023, Gabe served as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, where he served as President Biden’s principal liaison to mayors and local elected officials.
