Hasbro Children's Hospital Employee Facing Child Porn Charges

PROVIDENCE, RI — An employee at Hasbro Children's Hospital was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of child pornography. David M. Lavoie, 52, has worked as a pediatric sleep technologist at the hospital for nearly a decade, Rhode Island State Police said.

Members of the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force discovered that someone, later identified as Lavoie, was sharing pornographic images from a computer inside his Anthony Street home in Lincoln. On Wednesday, the task force raided the house, finding more child porn inside.

Lavoie was arrested and arraigned in Third District Court in Warwick on charges of possession and transfer of child pornography and released on $10,000 bail under strict orders not to have any contact with minors and under restrictions of his internet use.

Lavoie has worked as a pediatric sleep technologist at Hasbro for the past seven years. State police said there is no indication of any inappropriate behavior with patients, though an investigation is being conducted. Anyone with information relating to the investigation is encouraged to contact the task force by calling (401) 921-1170.

If convicted, Lavoie could face up to five years in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000 for the possession charge and up to 15 years in prison and/or the same fine for the transfer charge.
