Providence Man Charged In Fatal Multi-Car Crash

Witnesses said the suspect ran into a nearby gas station crying, but was brought to the ground by multiple bystanders until police arrived.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence man is facing multiple charges following Monday morning's fatal multi-car crash involving a landscaping dump truck and two other cars. The crash happened at about 12:30 a.m., Monday morning at the intersection of Valley Street and Atwells Avenue.

Brian Pagan Torres, 25 was charged with driving to endanger resulting in death, driving to endanger resulting in personal injury, driving while intoxicated death (DWI) resulting, and DWI involving bodily injury, Providence Police Commander Thomas Verdi told the Providence Journal.

Police Monday afternoon identified the victim as Frank Perry Jr., 28, of Providence. Police said an adult passenger in Perry's car remains hospitalized in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital.

Police said the dump truck Torres was driving t-boned a sedan, killing Perry and leaving another severely injured. No one from the third vehicle involved in the crash was hurt.

After the crash, witnesses said Torres ran into a nearby gas station crying, but was brought to the ground by multiple bystanders until police arrived..

Torres was kept under police guard while he was treated at Rhode Island Hospital, police told the Providence Journal.

Torres is scheduled for arraignment in District Court in Providence Tuesday afternoon.
