WAMPTRONICA: Reviving the Spirit of Community with Dance Music

WAMPTRONICA is more than a music group; it’s a collective of nine dedicated music and media creatives united by a mission to energize public spaces, uplift communities, and celebrate the spirit of dance. Since 2021, WAMPTRONICA has been sparking joy and fostering a sense of community through underground dance events. They started with The THUMP & SOUL SESSION at the Native Gallery in Mashpee, Massachusetts, moving to Gallery X in New Bedford before settling into The Underground Railroad Cafe, where they host monthly gatherings as part of the Oversoul Theatre Collective’s offerings.

At the core of WAMPTRONICA’s sound and success are Mwalim and The ZYG 808, the group’s main production team responsible for creating the vibrant soundscape that powers their recordings and releases. Working with Poly-Groove Records, they began releasing original music in 2024, including remixes and new tracks with Eightball Records, a legendary dance label in New York City. With upcoming releases such as "Let Ourselves Go" in December and "Grown Folks Party," featuring renowned vocalist Navalle "Chops" Turner, WAMPTRONICA continues to build its repertoire of soul-stirring tracks.

Through their public performances, including pop-up dance parties across New England, WAMPTRONICA embraces a unique mission to transform everyday spaces into zones of celebration and unity. Recent events have taken place at Boston Common’s Uncommon Stage at Emerson, drawing crowds and passersby with infectious rhythms that invite everyone to pause, dance, and connect.

WAMPTRONICA’s The THUMP & SOUL SESSION, held on the third Saturday of every month, offers a safe, joyful gathering that reflects the Bay Village neighborhood’s rich musical heritage, including jazz, soul, R&B, blues, Afro-Caribbean, and Creole influences. The collective sees these events as an opportunity to give back to the New Bedford community, providing both a healthful activity and an experience of unity through music.
