This is Richmond Town Administrator Karen Pinch with information relating to Tropical Storm Henri and the clean-up efforts.  The Town has been working diligently throughout the weekend to assist residents and protect life-safety.  The Richmond Police, our Public Works Department, Emergency Management, and our volunteer fire companies have been doing a tremendous job.

Over half of Richmond residents lost power during the storm.  National Grid is in Richmond and doing assessments at this time.  Please consult the National Grid website for restoration time at your home or business.  The Town Hall is unable to give you any information on when you might have your power back.

As you can imagine, there are many trees down.  Town roads that are still impassible are that way because there are lines entangled in the trees and National Grid must handle those situations.  No home on a town street is completely inaccessible to emergency vehicles, and our dispatchers have a good handle on where the obstructions are and can route emergency responders via alternate routes.

Should you need water, the hydrants are open at Chariho Plaza and at Richmond Elementary School.   If you plan to drink the water, you should boil it.

If you are using a generator, please make sure it’s vented and far enough away from the house.   The fire department has had an overabundance of carbon monoxide calls resulting from generator use.  Please refer to your manufacturer’s instructions.

The Town is developing a plan for disposal of debris.  Please consult the website in the coming days for further information on debris disposal.

Please keep in mind that this is only day two, and the primary concern has to be life-safety before convenience.  This applies to all of the utilities and also to our Public Works Department.  There are over 160 roads in Richmond, and they have all been surveyed and prioritized.  We sincerely appreciate your patience as all of the crews work to restore everything to normal.

Please consult our website, www.richmondri.com for any additional information you may need.

Thanks and stay safe.
