Alleged Drunk Driver Strikes Pole, Crashes Into Stream In Little Compton

charged a North Kingstown woman with drunk driving and refusal to submit a chemical test after she reportedly struck a utility pole and crashed into a stream.

Lisa M. Valatka, 40, of 60 Village Hill Lane, North Kingstown, was arrested at 1:15 a.m., Sunday, April 22 on Swamp Road. She was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and refusal to submit a chemical test.

According to police, Valatka was driving her Toyota SUV on Swamp Road when she reportedly lost control. Her vehicle struck a utility pole and crashed into a stream on the north side of the road in front of 50 Swamp Road. Her vehicle reportedly sustained heavy damage. Valatka was uninjured.

Officers detected Valatka was under the influence of alcohol. After reportedly failing a field sobriety test, police said she refused a breathalyzer back at the station.
