Today's riddle: What has a cap but no head? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Reed, Whitehouse & Amo Welcome $1 Million for Tiverton Water System Improvements to Address PFAS Contamination (house.gov) — Tiverton residents dealing with PFAS-contaminated private wells are set to benefit from a new $1 million federal grant to install an emergency public water line, including in the North Tiverton Fire District. The funding, backed by Rhode Island's congressional delegation, aims to quickly restore safe drinking water while longer-term testing and investigations into the contamination continue.
2. Tiverton Council Weighs PFAS Development Moratorium (upriseri.com) — Tiverton's Town Council is considering a temporary development moratorium in areas affected by PFAS contamination, but has not yet approved any pause. Instead, the town solicitor will draft townwide and map-defined options for a future vote, after officials reported 102 contaminated wells and debated how any short-term halt could withstand legal challenges and protect residents' water supplies.
3. Tiverton Schools Face $780,618 CTE Tuition Gap (upriseri.com) — Tiverton school officials warn the Town Council that a new state ruling on career and technical education tuition has created an unbudgeted $780,618 shortfall for FY27, with possible back-billing to earlier years. Council members questioned rising per-pupil costs, transportation burdens, and student choices, while the district pursues an appeal and legislative fixes that could significantly affect local taxes and school programs.
4. Kalshi, CFTC Rules and Rhode Island's Sports Betting Fight (upriseri.com) — Rhode Island's control of sports betting revenue, including from the Tiverton casino facility, is being tested by lawsuits over whether online prediction markets fall under state gambling law or exclusive federal regulation. New CFTC rules now under White House review could redefine these contracts as derivatives, potentially shifting bets and tax revenue away from the state-run Lottery system that includes Tiverton.
