Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin Announces Voluntary Recall of Propane Gas

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have announced a voluntary recall of propane gas that was sold by Aux Sable during a seven-month period last year.

Some of the gas doesn't have enough odorant to let people know if there is a leak, according to a news release from Kilmartin's office. Leaking gas can lead to burns, fire and explosions.

Gas that was delivered or sold in storage tanks between Feb. 25, 2010, and Sept. 30, 2010, is part of the recall, according to the release. The propane was sold in Rhode Island. Massachusetts and 12 other states, according to the release.

People who bought propane during that timeframe should contact Aux Sable, the company that may have provided the propane to whoever sold it to them. The company will arrange for a free inspection, according to the release. If the gas doesn't have enough odorant, replacement propane will be provided free of charge.

“I strongly urge all Rhode Islanders who believe they may have purchased Aux Sable propane during the time referenced to contact the company immediately," Kilmartin said in the release. "Although there have been no reports of injuries or explosions in Rhode Island, propane is highly flammable, and consumers should not disregard the potential dangers.”
