Tiverton Police Standoff Ends With Arrest: Cops
A Tiverton man barricaded himself inside his home after a domestic disturbance, police said.
TIVERTON, RI — A Tiverton man barricaded himself inside his home after a domestic disturbance, police said.
Kriss Farias, 49, holed up in the Bulgarmarsh Road apartment for seven hours after officers arrived shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday to investigate a report of a burglary in progress, the Tiverton Police Department said in a media release.
The burglary in progress turned out to be a domestic disturbance, according to the release.

"Upon arrival, Farias' 39-year-old domestic partner was located outside the residence and was observed to be in distress and sustained recent injuries to the neck and leg," the release said.
The injured partner was hospitalized for further evaluation, according to the release.

"The victim indicated that following the disturbance, which terminated outside of the residence, Farias retreated into the second-floor apartment and barricaded both entrances," the release said.
Officers "examined the mentioned entrances and attempted to contact Farias to no avail, according to the release.
"Given the manner in which Farias had fortified the residence, it was determined that further resources would be necessary to safely resolve the matter," the release said.
"Farias was taken into custody without incident" shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday, according to the release, and was charged with domestic assault by strangulation, domestic violence — simple assault and/or battery, domestic violence — criminal violation of no contact order and domestic violence — disorderly conduct.
The Newport County Special Response Team, Rhode Island Bomb Squad and Tiverton Fire Department assisted the local police, the release said.
