A Town Farm Treasure

Town Farm Park offers a great place for the community to get together.

All this dreary early spring weather has me dreaming of the summer, and going to some of the local parks with the kids. We’re very fortunate in this town to have a really cool park, right at . It is fantastic community planning to put the baseball fields, soccer fields, a track, playground equipment, and tennis courts all in one place.

If you have a child who plays soccer or baseball, you know what I’m talking about. On a typical Saturday, it looks like the whole town is there. Children play their favorite sport while parents cheer them on. Little brothers and sisters enjoy the swings, or the slides. Grandma is in from out of town, and she pushes the new baby in a stroller around the track. All over the park parents connect with each other: “Is Jimmy going to play basketball in the Fall? How’s the job hunt going? I have a friend who was complaining he couldn’t find a good carpenter...”

All around, there is a real sense of community involvement, from the coaches who give our kids their first lessons in sportsmanship, to the parents who always volunteer to work the concession, and neighbors who will keep an eye on a couple of extra kids so that Mom can finally see her boy up at bat. I feel very lucky to be a part of such a great community, and many thanks to all of you who make it happen. I know that there are many hours of meetings after long days at work and hundreds of emails flying around in order to make sure these kids get the best we all have to offer. I certainly appreciate it, and the other parents do too. Summer is on it’s way. I’ll see you all at Town Farm!
