Certainly Not Road Rage, But...

Does it irk you when you allow a motorist into a long line of traffic, and then said motorist ignores you?

For my very first blog ever, a warning: Let it be known throughout the land that, henceforth, I shall NOT, when driving, slow down and/or stop to allow a motorist on a side street to enter a long line of traffic. (All right – in a moment of weakness, I may relent, but I do not see this happening any time soon.) In the past, I have often paid other drivers this courtesy, but the extremely low percentage of thank-you-nods or thank-you-waves has just dried up any milk of human kindness I once had as a driver. (I used to be a veritable dairy farm of human kindness, but I have now become old and bitter.)

I have not asked for or expected a lot. A simple wave or even just a slight nod of the head would be nice. A honk of the horn or a flash of the headlights would satisfy me. Hey, momentary eye contact and just the vaguest indication of a wink would suffice! But the response that I far too often get is...nothing.

I do exist. (I was not sure before, but now I am quite certain: I blog; therefore, I am.) So, when I allow someone into the line of traffic, when I have done something NICE for a fellow human being, it is rather insulting and, at the least, just plain uncivil, to be treated as if I do NOT exist, to be totally ignored. It vexes me and it gives me stress (and sometimes it makes me say bad words) when I do a kindness and then I am treated as if I am invisible.

Ergo, until I somehow get a “vibe” that things have changed, I will be EXTREMELY reluctant to (and most likely won’t) slow down and wave a motorist into a long line of traffic. This may sound harsh, but if it prevents me from being vexed, stressed, and saying bad words, so be it.

(Is it pompous to use “henceforth” and “ergo” in the same blog? I am a newcomer to blogdom.)
