Child & Family Program Helps Aging Population Live Independently
The program allows older residents the freedom to live in their own homes while receiving help with things like errands, gardening and housekeeping.
Child & Family launched a membership program last week that will provide a one-stop concierge service for Newport County residents 50 years old and older. Whether members are transitioning or life-long residents, the program allows members to live independently and comfortably in their own homes.
Whether the need is housekeeping, home maintenance, errands or meals, the program connects residents to a network of professionals and resources. Child & Family has been designing and developing the program Living Well in Newport for the past year and a half. Within just a few days, they already have their first member from Tiverton.
“This program is extremely beneficial, not just for seniors but for their loved-ones as well. It gives them a sense of ease,” Keith Tavares, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Child & Family said.

Through Living Well in Newport, members can choose from the Preferred Providers list to take advantage of special discounts and offers. Currently, there are approximately 80 Preferred Providers across the areas of Daily Living & Home Maintenance, Dining & Entertainment, Health & Wellness, and Legal & Financial services.
Being a member of the Living Well in Newport program also means that residents have access to a concierge service that answers questions and makes arrangements for whatever the need may be. Included in the membership are discounts for home repairs, gyms, restaurants, spa services, cleaning services, eye care, and acupuncture, to name just a few.

Volunteers are also a big part of the Living Well in Newport program, which has led Child & Family to design the Neighbor to Neighbor Program. Volunteers are always needed to assist Newport-area seniors in performing small tasks such as gardening, shoveling snow, or caring for a pet.
“Living Well in Newport is a very community-oriented program,” Tavares said. “With the shifting age populations in Newport, it’s something that is definitely needed.”
On Thursday, April 28th from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Child & Family is having an open house for those who are interested in learning more about the Living Well in Newport program. There will be food, beverages and live entertainment and many Strategic Partners and Preferred Providers will be present to answer any questions.
