Tiverton Man Crashed Into Tree And Killed: Cops

There was no indication another vehicle was involved in the wreck, police said.

TIVERTON, RI — A Tiverton man crashed into a tree and was killed, police said.

Matthew Poirier, 40, was found unresponsive in a severely damaged Toyota RAV4 near the intersection of Eight Rod Way and Morning Dove Drive shortly after 8:30 a.m. Saturday, the Tiverton Police Department said in a media release.

Poirier was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where he was pronounced dead, according to the release.

The RAV4 had crashed into a tree, the release said.

"At this time, there i s no indication that any other vehicles were involved in the crash," the release said. "The
cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Tiverton Police Department."
